Does your Mercedes need an AIR-BALANCE refill or a vent air freshener?
They are two different product paths. AIR-BALANCE uses a flacon in a documented vehicle system; a vent clip hangs a separate load on an outlet. Identify what the exact car has before buying either one.
Identify the system in 60 seconds—while parked
- Match the car: record the model, model year, market, trim, and option list or build record.
- Open the exact manual: search its climate-control section for “fragrance,” “flacon,” or “AIR-BALANCE.” Do not borrow instructions from another model or year.
- Check the documented controls: only use the climate or air-quality menu named by that manual. A missing menu is a reason to verify equipment, not to assume a fault.
- Inspect only the stated location: if the manual identifies a glove-compartment flacon holder, compare it with the vehicle. Do not probe a recess, remove trim, or treat an empty space as proof.
Mercedes-Benz's 2024 GLC and C-Class manuals describe their fragrance controls under the climate system and place the flacon in the glove compartment. The C-Class manual also limits the function to vehicles with specified climate-control equipment. Those examples show why a model badge alone is not enough.
If AIR-BALANCE is present, use the manual before troubleshooting
In the 2024 GLC manual, operation requires automatic climate control, a closed glove compartment, and an inserted flacon. It also says the function can be restricted when the driver-side outlets are closed. Check the requirements in the manual for your exact car, because menus and conditions can vary.
If the system still does not work after the documented owner checks, stop there. Do not dismantle the glove compartment, atomizer, hose, or dashboard based on an online shortcut. Record the vehicle identification number, the displayed menu state, the flacon part number, and the symptom for an authorized service professional.
“Refill” can mean two different purchases
Mercedes-Benz lists filled fragrance flacons, including DOWNTOWN MOOD product A0008990288, and also lists a purpose-made empty 15 ml AIR-BALANCE flacon, A2228990188, for an owner's own fragrance choice. The existence of the empty product does not make every bottle, atomizer, or vehicle compatible.
The Mercedes-Benz product catalog directs owners to use its Car Chooser with a model or VIN and to consult a dealer for compatibility. Use that check for the exact item. Do not pry open or repurpose a filled flacon, pour liquid into the vehicle's holder, or substitute an unrelated bottle. The manuals warn that liquid perfume can cause injury if swallowed or if it contacts eyes or skin; keep it away from children and follow the product's safety and disposal instructions.
A Mercedes vent clip is a different fit problem
Search results often put A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, GLC, GLE, and S-Class names into one accessory title. That is not a supported vehicle list. Outlet geometry, moving parts, clearances, materials, and cabin equipment can differ by model, year, market, and vent position. Even similar-looking round outlets need their own evidence.
A conventional clip usually expects an exposed straight vane. A round or turbine-style outlet may rotate, swivel, close, or use radial surfaces that do not create the same load path. Do not wedge a clip between trim rings, clamp a control, block movement, or add tape to force a fit. Read the round, turbine, and vertical vent comparison before evaluating a listing.
Ventlings status: no Mercedes-Benz fit claim
As of August 20, 2026, Ventlings is an original preproduction concept. There is no production-equivalent dock, verified Mercedes-Benz adapter, supported model-year list, AIR-BALANCE integration, or completed retention program. The free founder reservation records interest only; it does not reserve inventory or promise compatibility, production, or shipping.
